Queenie Black Book of the Day

What up book people? So today I am back with another edition of Pick A Side where I talk about a book that is very polarizing within the book community. It’s a book that people either gave two snaps and a circle or they HATED it. Today’s book is Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams. Now I don’t think I have publicly shared how I felt about this book but Imma tell you about it today as objectively as possible.

So this one takes place across the pond in the UK. It follows Queenie after she goes through a break up with her white boyfriend. She starts dating a lot of different men looking for comfort but basically the men are all wack. She works for the newspaper and has to deal with micro aggressions while dealing with comparisons to her white peers. It brings to light the pressures of code switching more from a social aspect than verbal as she tries to find her place. She makes several decisions that have readers looking at her like umm gurl. Now fans of this book often speak about loving flawed main characters while those that criticize it found the flaws and bad decisions to be just too much.

So if you’ve read this one lemme know in the comments what side you are on. And if you haven’t read it, I’m not gonna say anything to sway you one way or the other. Im just gonna say always support Black authors and judge for yourself.

You’re welcome.
